The Chico City Council is discussing a proposal that would close off streets to allow restaurants to expand their dining areas outside.

Is holding a special meeting..... one of the topics on the agenda - a new proposal to help local restaurants that are reopening for dine-in..... action news now reporter kristian lopez is live near chico city council chambers.

What's the plan being considered?

It would be to close off streets so that restaurants can expand their dining areas and seat more people outside... councilman randall stone pitched the idea for council to discuss during tonight's meeting.

We are seeing restaurants opening back up for in-person dining but they are only allowed to have a limited amount of people.

Stone says he thinks this idea will help increase business.

It will be up to merchants to decide if they want to participate for some it might be advantageous for others it wont be as advantageous because blocking off streets means losing parking///: i think seating people outside and separating them more is always a good thing he said if it moves forward it would be up to the city staff to figure out the best way to implement the policy so that it doesn't cause major impacts for traffic.

He is proposing the same idea of blocking off streets around the saturday farmers market.

This is just still a proposal that will be discussed during tonight's chico city council meeting.

Live in chico kl action news now also on tonight's agenda, a low barrier shelter and rising tensions at the needle distribution on sundays.### the paradise irrigation
