We begin our coverage with a look at what's happen right now in terre haute.

The protest that began this afternoon has continued into the night -- with marchers moving throughout downtown.

Indiana state police... and terre haute police have been monitoring this demonstration.

News 10's richard solomon is live with more on efforts to preserve first amendment right and keep the public safe.

Richard... demonstrations have continued in downtown terre haute.

Police have been following protesters... blocking off traffic... to ensure their right to free speech and to assemble is protected.

I'm joined by indiana state police sergeant matt ames.

As we said... this protest as we said... this protest started this afternoon with hundreds marching from the courthouse to police headquarters.

News 10's jada huddlestun has more on where the demonstration began.

*natpop* // black lives matter from the vigo county court house... *natpop* // hands up don't shoot ... down wabash avenue... *natpop* // prosecute the police ... to the terre haute police department... *natpop* // i can't breathe, i can't breathe ... and back again... *natpop* // black lives matter ... hundreds of people in terre haute protested after the police killing of george flyod.

"we're out here for every black life that's been lost due to a corrupt cop that's supposed to be here to protect and serve us."

Erick beverly organized the protest.

*natpop* "we got two boys at home..

So let's not make it a black and white thing.

/// that's also people out there with mixed kids that gotta explain to their kids what's going on in this world."

He says he made posters ..

And thought there was only so much one person could do.

And on saturday, he wasn't alone as many people took to the streets.

"at the end of the day we just want a better world, a better humanity."

Beverly says ..

He's doing this for his kids, and the future.

"we're also making our presnce known that we're not gonna accept this in terre haute, in vigo county.

If any of the law enforcements thinkgs they're going to be able to do something here in this town and get away with it, nawh, we're here."

A prayer vigil was also held in terre haute today.

Many gathered to pray for george floyd and his family.

But the service led to a bigger discussion... some say prayer is simply not enough.

They say the sermon failed to address the heart of this issue -- police brutality and racial injustice.

The heated discussion did lead to a final prayer circle.

But the call for justice and a better future
