The lee county courthouse located at 201 w jefferson street is closed after an employee has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Bill benson the chancery clerk and county administrator said an employee tested positive for coronavirus earier this week.

This is the second time that the courthouse closed because of the coronavirus.

The first time was back in march when i customer came in claiming his wife might have had the coronavirus.

"customers can still conduct business online, pay taxes, car tags all that type of thing or mail in either one."

About 15 other employees are being tested today, because they could have been exposed at work.

"it will be completely closed monday and tuesday, and hopefully wednesday depending on what test results are and if the cleaning process.

Hopefully wednesday we will be back in operation."

Benson is hoping that the courthouse will open back up wednesday.

He said that they are still going to be using the same precautions like social distancing, wearing masks, and the plexiglas barriers between employees and customers.

"so its already pretty stringent to get through so they will go back to that new normal for now."

Bill benson says that a professional cleaning crew is coming to clean the courthouse tomorrow and hopes to be able to reopen for employees and the public by the middle of the week.
