Local restaurant making the most of Covid-19 situation

With the Safer At Home order expiring, but safety measures still in place, restaurants like Amsterdam are finding new ways to make the best of the situation.

With the safer at home order expiring today, local industries are expecting business to pick back up.

Jean is in downtown tupelo where a restaurant is rolling with the punches.

Moving a business from one location to another always brings new challenges.

Amsterdam deli moved to downtown tupelo in late 2019, right before the coronavirus outbreak.

When they were closed down, much like other businesses, they had to re-evaluate how their business operated.

Now that they're back open some of the adjustments they had to make during the pandemic.are actually quite popular.

We've had to change our business plan full circle (track) peter rodrigues is the general manager of amsterdam.

He said the biggest change in their business plan has been their take-out and curbside services, it wasn't something they were planning on utilizing to the degree they've had to during the pandemic.

When they reopened, another aspect they weren't planning on really using that has been a big hit: outdoor seating.

(peter) you know we didn't know what was going to happen with all the restrictions.

We wanted to absolutely and now is the perfect time to do it and people love it.

(track) they started with one table.

Then three.

Now they have eight outdoor tables.

This past saturday they had an extensive waiting list for people to sit at outdoor tables.

And now amsterdam is building on the popularity.

(peter) we're going to try some live music saturday.

And keep the crowds to a minimum and whatnot, we're not looking to do anything to push it, but it's something where people can enjoy being outside.
