Mayor Eric Garcetti Announces Budget Cuts to LAPD Garcetti announced he would be scrapping plans to increase the Los Angeles Police Department’s budget in a daily news briefing on Wednesday.

The LAPD was set to receive an increase from $1.189 billion to $1.86 billion for 2020-2021.

Mayor Eric Garcetti, via news briefing Garcetti announced that in addition to blocking the budget increase, he plans to cut $250 million within the department.

The mayor added that he plans to reallocate the funding towards education, health, jobs and the city’s black communities.
