The family of a man shot and killed by madison police last year are now demanding the release of the body camera footage in the wake of george floyd's killing.

The family of dana fletcher have unsuccesfully tried to obtain the footage from the shooting -- and they're now circulating a petition demanding the footage.

Waay 31's rodneya ross is live outside the madison police department this morning with a look at the petition filed by the family.

The fletcher family started a petition on change dot org not only calling for madison police to release the body cam footage but to make the footage public record.

Fletcher's family wants a bill called the dana fletcher bill to be signed into law.

The bill will require body cam footage to be made available to the public.

We talked to fletcher's sister who told us the family will never stop seeking justice for her brother.

"when someone in your family gets killed by law enforcement they will meet you with the same empathy that they met my family with unless you help us change things," the madison county district attorney ruled the shooting death of dana fletcher by madison police was justified.
