MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s been eight years since Sammie Davis Jr. was killed by former Macon Police Department officer Clayton Sutton.

Residents came together today at the rosa parks square in macon... for a news conference ... asking for justice.

Nat: sammie davis jr, who was unarmed, was shot and killed by officer clayton sutton in the parking lot of a macon kroger in 2012.

Nat: in the rise of protests across the country due to police brutality, some residents want davis' case reopened.

They claim it wasn't investigated thoroughly.

Nat:that case should be revisited, it should be reopened, we know you can get dna on a suspect if you want to, officers know how to do that after the gbi investigation, district attorney david cooke ruled officer sutton acted properly.

Cooke: according to cooke, they reviewed gbi's findings and also provided a copy of the evidence to the u.s. justice department, u.s. attorney eric holder and president barack obama for additional review.

Cooke: both independent reviews concluded there was no evidence to pursue charges against officer sutton.

Cooke says if any new evidence calls into question the forensic evidence that supports eyewitness testimony, he will reopen the case.
