Motorists battle through flooded road after summer rain storm in Thailand

Dozens of drivers and motorcyclists were stuck in knee-deep water after heavy rain caused flash floods in northern Thailand.

The tropical downpour swamped roads when it battered Nakhon Ratchasima, north eastern Thailand, on Sunday night (June 14).

Footage was taken by onlooker Momo Sang while she was stuck at the night market with her friends after the rain.

Drenched locals had to wade through the deluge while motorcycle riders had to push their bikes home.

Large parts of Thailand and Southeast Asia have been experiencing heavy rainstorms in recent weeks while the region enters the hottest period of the year with temperatures reaching 40C.

Poor infrastructure and a lack of investment in roads and drainage - particularly in Thailand - often leads to severer flooding affecting transport and business.
