Two opposing rallies meet in front of the Springfield City Library

A parade in support of police had about 300 people and the counter-protest had about 200.

Each this evening in springfield.

One group was there in support of the police and another was there calling for the defunding of the police.

New tonight at 11 kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy is live here in the studio and shows the protest was generally peacefully, but there was some tense moments.

Chynna-- i walked with both sides all evening through downtown springfield.

A parade in support of police saw over 300 people turn out and the counter portest had a crowd of about 200.

Now the images you are about to see are from some tense moments and we cannot confirm which side escalted the situation.

Charlie: "i'm hoping that it will be peacefull."

Two rallies... two points of views... all coming to ahead in front of the springfield city library.

Charlie: "we're out here to show support for to law enforcement."

Nathanial: "i believe we need to change what we are spending our money on with the police.

Clearly they are over militarized."

A parade in support of the police made its way downtown.... and counter protesters followed.

Those who supported the police dropped off gifts at springfeild police head quarters.

Steve: "they need to know they got the backing of the community because in a lot of these places the community is behind them and that sucks."

However some counter protesters says they just want to see money go to other social services that they claim police are not trained to deal with.

"i want to see funding go to services like cahoots and i want to see that go across the nation."

The protests were generally peaceful..

But there were some tense moments "nat" "nat" "nat" someone was taken away by police but it is still unclear what for.

But one woman... who's husband works for springfield police... says she is out here to support him but also to show the counter protesters that officers are there and carea about both sides.

Tam: "he cares about these guys you he's serving this community so they have the right to do what they're doing and that's why were here.

We're here to say we support that, we support our law enfrocement.

We care about people chynna-- before i let you go i wanted to share with you this picture.

I captured it at the protest today.

It shows two people from two different sides of demonstrations coming embracing each other in a hug.

This shows no matter what our differences we can still come together as one.
