More at-home firework shows happening amid coronavirus pandemic

With 4th of July celebrations being canceled across the Wabash Valley, many people resorting to doing their own shows.

July fourth july fourth july is coming up fast... that means firework shows are being planned!!

Good evening and thank you for joining us.

This year -- the fourth is going to be looking a little different.

Because of covid 19.

News 10's sarah lehman is live right out side of our station.

She has more on why people are doing their own firework shows.

And the dangers that come with that.

Rondrell... in just a few rondrell... rondrell... in just a few days you're going to start hearing and seeing things like this... sparklers.

And fireworks!

That's with fourth of july right around the corner!

But a lot of big celebrations have been cancelled.

That's because of the cornavirus pandemic.

Many cities are drastically changing their july fourth celebrations.

Or canceling them all together.

That's to avoid large crowds.

And help make sure the virus doesn't spread.

Local firework stores say because of that -- they have seen people buying their own fireworks to set off themselves.

Or neighborhoods putting shows together.

But -- terre haute fire chief jeff fisher says that's when injuries can happen.

"surronding cities and counties cancelling their shows we've seen an uptick in sales just where neighborhoods have come in just where they're pulling together to try to do shows just because they can't go to their towns shows.

/// if you're going to shoot them off yourself just make sure that you do safely /// hand injuries are the number one injury when it comes to fireworks.

So be aware.

/// when shooting off fireworks just use common sense and everyone will be safe."

Chief fisher says to make chief fisher will be safe."

Chief fisher says to make sure you are paying extra attention to kids when fireworks are being shot off.

Also to have some sort of extingusher close by.

He says that could be a fire exstingusher... or even just a bucket of water.

Reporting live in terre haute.

I'm sarah lehman news 10.

Back to you.
