Vanessa what are our leaders doing to keep coroanvirus infections from spreading among the unsheltered?

One local shelter tells me project room key will get an upgrade& and the shelter will be able to safely house more people.

Governor gavin newsom announced local governments will get almost 2 billion in federal money to respond to the coronavirus& 300 million of that will go to local governments for homeless services.

We believe its helped keep numbers down because with project room key when we were in the shelter in place, we were really making sure those folks that are extremely susceptible were sheltering in place.

Torres shelter interim director matt reed says the center along with safe space housed about 170 people through project room key.& that project is set to end at the end of the month, but with more funding, it will move to project house key.

We have the road map already so its just putting that into place, working with the city, county and state to get that funding set to move to the next steps& reed says they already moved 30 people into transitional or permanent support housing.

We're also looking to increase our census here at the torres shelter, we're currently running about 80 people and we're staying in contact with public health and cdc guidelines so our census, we can increase up to 120 people.
