A brief stand- off near walmart.

He's currently getting a mental health assessment at a local hospital.

As we first reported on news 18 at 5, police say the man was armed with a knife and wanted to go into the walmart.

Capt.

Art choate with wlpd says officers first noticed the man barefoot on yeager and sagamore parkway, throwing fireworks in the road.

Then he waved a knife at officers as they were leaving and said he was heading to walmart.

That's when police followed him and started negotiating in the parking lot.

Choate says he resisted when they tried to cuff him, so officers tazed him.

He was taken directly to the hospital for evaluation.

He was very aggressive towards officers yelling at us and cursing and trying to egg us on so we tried keeping an eye on him until we heard him say he wanted to head to walmart and we did not know his state of mind we did not want him going into walmart.

Police say they will not be identifying the man unless the investigation does result in charges.
