Local health care providers say the recent surge in coronavirus cases is prompting more people to get tested.

Action news now reporter kristian lopez shows us how this is impacting some of our testing sites.

Kristian intro: within a few hours of being open tuesday morning immediate care clinic here in chico already had a line of people waiting to get tested.

Kris chin/got tested: i'm being a lot more careful and i'm really worried about it.

Christine mcrice/got tested: i really wasn't too concerned about it but a kid from my daughters preschool recently tested positive.

As coronavirus cases spike the demand for tests also increasing... dr. bradley smith: we had 30 test requests before 10 am this morning.

People are scared, people want to try to return to travel, people want to try to return to work, all of those things require testing.

Ceo of immediate care, dr. bradley smith says this is putting a strain on his clinic.

Dr. bradley smith: if this trend continues we cant run our normal business when 100 people a day walk up and need covid testing... that takes up all of our resources.

We are getting all of a sudden a rush of people wanting to get tested.

And in terms of getting tests run, we can have results ready in 1 to 2 days.

But at the silverdollar fairgrounds testing site, you might have to wait a few extra days to get your results.

Christine mcrice/got tested: i think they said about 5 days.... it wasn't really that bad, a little uncomfortable.

But i would encourage people to get tested it wasn't bad at all.

Dr.bradley smith: if we want to get rid of this we are going to all have to listen to public health instructions.

Kristian: dr. smith says right now its important for all of us to do our part to stop the spread.

In chico kl action news now immediate care clinic is open monday through friday from 7 am to 7pm and weekends from 8 am to 4pm.
