Navigating Summer Entertaining

Ereja Vetrini, TV Host and Lifestyle expert, joins us on Good Day Kentucky with some tips on how we can itch that summer entertainment scratch

The sound c1 3 lisa: the summer is going to look a lot different for many of us than past summers, but that doesn't mean that summer 2020 has to be a bummer.

There is still plenty of fun that you and your family can enjoy inside and outside.

Tv hosts and lifestyle expert.

Erica vetrini is joining us today with her tips to help us scratch that summer entertaining itch.

Welcome to the show, erica.

Erica vetrini: thank you so much for having me, lisa.

I'm so happy to be here.

Lisa: well we're glad to have you too, and as we mentioned this summer is going to look a lot different for many of us.

So as a parent how can we still make it fun and memorable as ever for our kids?

Erica vetrini: i think it's so important to focus on that.

I think for us in particular, quarantine really made home life and family life feel a bit like prison.

So my husband and i have truly focused on making it more special, making the summertime more special and we can't travel and we can't have big celebrations, but we can do a lot of little things to make it fun.

Lots of hikes, lots of biking.

We got a projector for the outdoors so that we can have outdoor movie screenings, all of that good stuff.

Erica vetrini: i do want to encourage everybody to spend time outdoors, obviously hiking, biking, doing what they need to do, both for physical and mental health, but i want to remind them that you do have to stay safe.

So you do have to stay your safe distance, but you also have to remember that the uv rays from the sun are definitely dangerous and to protect against them.

Erica vetrini: i don't know about you lisa, but as a mom, i feel like it's my job to protect the fun, and what that means for me is that nobody walks out that door without having sunscreen from their head to their toes.

In particular, i love the banana boat ultra sports, sunscreen lotion, spf 50.

It is water and sweat resistance, which is key for my kids.

I hate getting that into their eyes, and it's also clinically proven to protect against both uva rays and uvb rays, which is really important.

It comes in various different forms. so you've got the lotion, as i mentioned, which is really lightweight.

We've also got a spray, the glide and even a lip balm.

So i'm encouraging everybody to go outside, make fun family time fun, but just to keep safe in more ways than one.

Lisa: i love that we're protected when we are outside and you always have great ideas for family fun.

What other tips do you have for us?

Erica vetrini: well, i also feel like you have to remember to celebrate little moments because we're not having these big blowout summer spectacles.

You have to look at little moments and really try to celebrate them, and i think one thing for us is always to... you know, treats are a big part of it and food is a big part of it.

In fact, july is actually national ice cream month.

Erica vetrini: so for me, summertime always meant ice cream cakes.

So when i think of an ice cream cake it always makes me really happy and my kids feel the same way but they're a bit of snobs.

They will only have the i love ice cream cakes ice cream cakes.

I think you know them probably, lisa, the carvel cake with those magical chocolate crunchies in the center.

I've also got in front of me oreo and there's reese's pieces.

There's so many different kinds.

You can find those in the freezer section or the bakery section of your local grocery store, and if you can't find them there you can go online too.

Iloveicecreamcakes.com and use the product locator to find what you need.

So the tip really there is just to make the tiny moments special in any way that you can, and for us it's just having that special treat.

In fact... yeah.

Lisa: erica... you are killing me here with ice cream cake.

Oh my gosh.

Erica vetrini: yeah, right.

You?
