620.

To try and brings those numbers down... on thursday... governor andy beshear issued a mandate... requiring face masks be worn in public.

Starting today...masks are required when kentuckians are in a public place.

Some exceptions include working out..or when you're outside and six feet away from others.

Abc 36's monica harkins talked to governor beshear about this new mandate in a one- on-one interview this afternoon.

She joins us in the studio for tonight's top story at six.

### grab your masks...because now it's mandatory to wear one... l3: top story white gov.

Asking people to follow "no shirt, no shoes, no mask?

No service" masks mandat ... but what happens if you're not wearing one?

Governor andy beshear says first, you should want to wear one, if not to help yourself, to help lower the spead of the coronavirus to others.

Second, he says local health departments will be enforcing the rule...first with warnings then possibly fines.

Third, grocery stores, restaurants and bars will refuse you service.

And finally, beshear told me it's important to self- patrol each other.

Andy beshear, kentucky: and by doing it in the timing that we have, and being aggressive and trying to stop an increase before it gets out of control.

It gives us the best chance in many ways to have it all which will be hard, but if we can get 80% of kentuckians wearing masks, we can keep those things open, we can get our kids back in school, we can probably do sports with fans in the stadium and continue to do it.

So it's really on us."

Asking people to follow "no shirt, no shoes, no mask?

No service" masks mandat ... i've heard from some viewers who say they're not sure if the mask mandate applies because a scott county judge put a restraining order in place....temporarily blocking governor beshear's covid-19 executive orders.

Attorney general daniel cameron has asked the judge to review that question.

Governor beshear explained he did an administrative rule which is stronger and not covered by the injunction.

And he hopes to get the entire issue before the court of appeals and eventually state supreme court quickly...it's time to get it settled, he says.

The order is only for 30 days and governor beshear says if kentuckians do well with it, it won't have to be extended.
