Local church provides connection, meets needs within congregation

Many churches are still choosing to online stream services, rather than gather in person.

Even though reopening is well underway in lane county -- many places of worship are still closed --- and choosing to stream their services online -- instead.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy spoke to a local church about if this transition has gotten easier over time --- and how they're staying connected.

Laura: "there is no greater purpose than what we are doing right now."

Laura dubois has multiple roles, here at unity of the valley in eugene.

But one that holds a deep and special place in her heart...is serving as the music director.

Laura: (crying) "many people are lonely, and just really having a hard time.

I get emotional just thinking about it.

What a gift it is that music can help lift people up out of that depression and give them a little bit of hope or comfort and know that we are thinking of them."

Which is why she, along with her team, have made it a goal... to meet people where*they are...for connection and comfort.

Laura: "we have started recording in the sanctuary again.

We meet once a week and put together usually three songs and they come out every sunday morning."

Bridge: as you can see the doors here at unity of the valley are still not open.

And they tell me they're not rushing to do so anytime soon.

But that*doesn't mean they've stopped bringing people peace during this pandemic.

John: "when we put a live stream online, what we are hoping i think is for people to realize, we are all in this together and that we are all connected."
