Andrews residents still concerned about safe drinking water

Although IDEM gave the 'all clear' sign for residents to use their drinking water, residents say they still don't trust the water supply in the town.

Tonight -- a small town in huntington county still skeptical about safe water.the town of andrews emergency notice of unsafe drinking water is gone...but many are saying..and showing..they think the water is still contaminated.fox 55's chris mullooly spoke with some in andrews and joins us live.

Chris..

What have they been able to tell you??hunter... they point to a letter sent by town council president on thursday.it says an 'air stripper' which takes out harmful chemicals isn't working.and hasn't worked since 19-94.

3 the sign outside bud's sports bar in andrews echos many beliefs.the preference of drink... anything other than water.

An issue the town has had... for over a month.it wasn't brought up until june 8th the emergency was june 19th and it ended june 30th this is douglas hutchinson..

He's lived here in andrews since 19-99 and says the with contamination and unsafe water has been a long time problem.

When the town gave the 'o-k' to use... hutchinson got his privately tested.it came back today and it came back less than 0.6 chloride and tcehis test came back safe... but others did not.ours tested low so i'm not worried about our house but overall i'm still worriedthe town is suing utech for allegedly contaminating the drinking water.

In a letter to raytheon ... utechs parent company ... town council president john harshbarger wrote a letter to raytheon ...the letter says a resident got her water checked after the all clear...the reading came back 1.8 micrograms per liter.... nearing the max of two.dogs dying people getting sick possibly from the water i understand how they're feeling i would use bottled water myselfchip coldiron says things need to change.he's running for the congress in the third district and was out passing pallets of water bottles to citizens at the beginning of the emergency.he says intervention from the indiana department of environmental management and other state agencies is critical... for residents who need safe water now.love to have gov involvement here getting to the bottom of this what's the issue who knew what when and get to solving this 3
