New at ten -- many parents in madison county have questions about plans for the start of the school year.

Those include questions about after-school activities.

Waay 31's will robinson-smith is live outside of huntsville high school.

He spoke with parents and an incoming freshman.

He learned how they're feeling about after-school activities when administrators say it's not safe to have students in the classroom.

Many parents are struggling with that question right now.

For a family that's all about sports, that can be a difficult call to make.

You see the kid running away with the ball?

And nailing that baseball?

And hitting that layup?

That's amaree jabbar.

To say sports is his passion would be an understatement.

Amaree jabbar, freshman, huntsville high school you know i just...work a lot.

It's just natural.

Natural or not... amaree says he's excited to get back to the gridiron as soon as possible.

He says he's not too worried about the virus.

"i feel excited.

You know, i love being out there on that field and just playing for my family, playing for me, you know?

I'm just trying to get where i want to be."

However for amaree's parents, keshia and ameen, finding the right answer to the question of extracurricular s isn't a slam dunk.

Keshia jabbar, amaree's mom oh, that's a difficult question because of course we would love to have all of our extra curricular activities going on, football, basketball, all of this, but at the same time, everything is just so unpredictable.

And it's not just parents and students trying to navigate their way through this.

The cares center in new hope offers several after school programs alongside madison county schools.

Andrea bridges, executive director, the cares center we try to help children understand the importance of their school day learning by real life application during the after school time.

Will robinson-smith right now, it's a bit of a wait- and-see game for places like the cares center here because the way they're funding is set up, if the schools are closed, then they can't have kids come inside here either.

So right now, like many parents, they're waiting for answers too.

This is all still very new and we're all putting the pieces of the puzzle together as we go along.

And so we're expecting some more guidance from the state department in the next week.

Meanwhile, amaree says he's prepared to do what he needs to whenever he's allowed to go back to school i think it would be weird to wear masks if we go to school, but i feel like it would be worth it just being there.

Andrea bridges with the cares center says she and other groups are meeting with the madison county school system tomorrow morning to answer some more questions about what extra curriculars will look like this fall.
