Police identify suspects arrested in Thurston protest

Police have released more details about the people arrested in the Thurston area protest Wednesday night.

Eight people were arrested during last night's protest... including one person from springfield.

Five from eugene, one from portland and one from tigard.

But we begin with kezi 9 news reporter emma jerome who spoke with one of the protesters arrested yesterday.

Tyshawn ford says his arrest last night proves the fight isnt over he was charged with disorderly conduct and other offenses..

But he really thinks he was targeted for being a leader.

He said they chose to march in thurston... because someone left a noose hanging on their property --- a noose that was supposedly a halloween decoration-- even though it's july.

He said he doesnt undersatand how the march was legal until they reached a barricade on xxxxxxxxx at that point... a fight broke out.

He says this will serve as a wakeup.

A lot of people in the eugene springfield thurston area thinks this doesn happen where they live and they just see what the news shows in portland and stuff like they don think it could happen here but it real it very real.

Police saying the barricade was their line in the sand and they had to hold the line.

A seargent with the department saying no action was taken until protestors crossed the barricade and the entire reason for the barricade was to keep the group from going onto main street which is infamous for crashes neighbors told me that the protest was peaceful until they met the police barricade.

After that - they were met by counter protestors who people say only escalated the chaos.
