Throught new president and c-e-o scott howson - the american hockey league announced today that the new anticipated start for the 2020-2021 regular season is december fourth.

This comes at the recommendation of the a-h-l's return to play task force.

The league's board of governors voted to approve the new start date today via conference call - saying that the league's 85th season will begin no earlier than that date.

No word on whether fans will be allowed at venues for the start - but league said its working with member clubs to monitor developments and local guidelines in the 31 respective team cities.

Retiring president and c-e-o dave andrews had said back in may that holding games with no fans would be difficult for the a- h-l - which lacks major t-v deals.

As of this moment - new york state still prohibits large gatherings for sports events.

The a-h-l said that further details regarding this year's schedule are still to be determined.
