In the Greenfield-Central Community School Corporation, 20 miles east of Indianapolis, a student tested positive for the virus on the first day back to class.

At Avon High School just west of Indianapolis, a staff member also tested positive.

Some schools in indiana are starting back up...and as many put their covid 19 plans to the test...one junior high school is already looking at a positive student one day into school.officials in greenfield say the student attended part of the school-day thursday.

Darius johnson reports.

Trt: dr. harold olin, superintendent greenfield-central schools: "there's no way that you can completely keep that out of a school corporation with 4,400 kids or even if you have 300 kids in a school.

You're likely going to have it at some point."the fourth school district to open in central indiana this week -- already has a student who tested positive for covid-19.a greenfield-central junior high school student who was awaiting results tested positive.superintendent dr. harold olin says their plan was immediately put in place.

Dr. harold olin/ superintendent greenfield-central schools: "we immediately pull that student from class, we isolate them in a specific place in the clinic.

Get the kid home.

We start doing contact tracing which means we go to those teachers, we get a seating chart, we find out who is in a close proximity to them.

And i use that term close proximity that means within 6 feet for 15 minutes or longer."patricia wood/ parent:"that's why i was really hesitant to send my children back to begin with."

Patricia woods daughter is an 8th grader who is part of the 15 percent in the district participating in virtual learning at home.patricia wood/ parent:"i mean it was really a no brainer for me.
