Girl Scout Troop 50435 Re-creates School Courtyard

News 18's marvin bills introduces us to girl scout troop 50435 and how they re-tooled a space that all kids will enjoy going back to school this year.

Girl scout troop 50435 is excited about their newest project in recreating clinton praire's courtyard into a safe hang out space for kids.

"we decided on this project like last year.

But due to covid-19 it just set it back completely."

The troop started getting ready for this project with approval from the school board and began raising funds before school ended for the fall semester.

But covid-19 pushed their start date back 3-months.

When schools closed for good in march it left the girls only a month to complete the project.

"it started out as a concrete slab and all that was out here was a bench."

After more than 300 hours of work troop 50435 successfully recreated the school's courtyard located on the elementary side.

The girls built and painted four new tables and added a sensory walk as well.

"we thought clinton praire does so much for us.

They allow us to hold our meetings here and we wanted to give back somehow."

- and the girls aren't finished yet.

The troop is planning on adding a sun shades to the courtyard as well as create rock gardens around the area.

The girls say they are excited for kids to enjoy this safe, fun and creative space this year.

"i hope that it will make it easier for all of the kids to deal with all of the covid stuff and they can have a little ain break and just be outside."

The girls will earn a silver badge for doing this project.

It's the highest badge a girl scout cadettee can receive.
