Morning--governor beshear says hes in support of local school districts chosing to start the academic year online..

It comes as the state is working to create more flexibility for school districts.

You may remember governor beshear recently recommended schools wait until at least the third week of august to start in person classes.

Many schools have already set their plans within the last couple of weeks..

The states two biggest counties..

Fayette and jefferson are following the recommendations..

Jefferson county board of education voted to start the year online on august 25th..

Thats with a plan to move back to the classroom after six weeks if possible.

Fayette county school board voted to start august 26th..entirely online as well.

In his briefing yesterday..

The governor says schools should carefully keep an eye on the data across the state..

To determine if and when it will be safe to return in-person.

"i think all schools need to be looking carefully at this data.

And if they believe its in their best interest of kids best interest of teachers to give it a little more time.

I certainly understand that.

And i want to be supportive of superintendents that make that decision."

Governor beshear added that if case numbers are not better under control..

By the third week of this month..

More recommendations could come.

And as we mentioned--- the state announced some new flexibility for school districts and online learning.
