Medford School District responds to updated metrics

Students of the Medford School District will begin the 2020-21 school year with fully remote learning.

The trinity wswatch 12's adam schumes spoke with the medford school district to find out how the revisions will apply to the district.

The medford school district said it is staying with its online learning plans for now, but it says the new metrics could give the district potential for some in person learning.

As the times change just like how summer months turn into fall days "the public health crisis will require many schools to implement comprehensive distance learning" so does the way our students learn "school this fall however won't look like a normal school year" fall classes will look a lot different --- than something you and i are accustomed to "in this environment it is more important than ever that we invest in our kids and their schools" just like our everyday lives have for the past 6 months "we have some illustrations on what does it look like in the event of a quarantine" the medford school district is adujsting to the new normal ---- "what we will do now is go back and take a look at the new guidance and thinking through what does it look like for all of our learners" after new metrics were announced by the oregon department of education this week.

"this guidance does not change our first 6 weeks of learning in the medford school district" a change however could include the potential of in person learning at some point during the school year "if we determine that there is a particular need and we can come up with a system to be able to provide it that we can bring back a limited number of kids for a limited number of reasons.

And having the potential for kindergarteners to meet their teachers "this actually allows for a small group of kindergarten kids to meet their teachers to potentially come together to meet their teacher as apart of their comprehensive distance learning" just like we have seen during the pandemic --- changes happen even more frequently than the seasons
