Residents of a small douglas county town are trying to move forward after a large brush fire broke out nearby.

As kezi 9 news reporter evita garza shows us -- they're not used to seeing big blazes in their area.

Jay dembaugh, scottsburg resident:?the way that it was moving& it coulde very easily gone south?

Jay dembaugh watched as the flames from the trailer sparks fire burned nearly 16 acres yesterday.

He says he still feeling overwhelmed.?before they knew it, it was clear over there.

It was unbelievable how quick it happened?

The fire started around 12:30pm on highway 38 just outside of scottsburg.

Im told the fire was caused by a mechanical failure from a trailer.

Nearly 50 firefighters and five aircraft were on the scene immediately& fighting to keep the flames away from any homes.?the helicopters& those were the guys who saved us.

The helicopters and the two planes that dropped the retardant?

Other scottsburg residents told me fires like this are not common in the area& even though they live along a busy highway.

But nothing to this magnitude for them to shut the whole highway down?

1:06 evita:?as you can see, flaggers have been directing traffic since last night as fire crews continue to clean up.

Dembaugh says the traffic is loud, but he doesn mind --- because it better than watching everything go up in flames?

It was out of control.

There was no way they coulde stopped it?

Right now& officials say the fire is completely contained.

But, they will spend the next few days cleaning up& and monitoring any hot spots.
