For the 20-21 rally.

New tonight at five -- city leaders in evansville are already discussing next year's budget and millions of dollars will be missing in 20-21 because of coronavirus.

The economic slowdown from the pandemic ---- is forcing the city to make necessary cuts.

Anchor lauren leslie --- is at tonight's budget hearing at the civic center.

She joins us live -- from downtown.

Budget hearings are underway here in evansville and these talks will continue for the next three days.

It's about 8- million dollars the city will not see in the 20-21 budget due to a lack of revenue from a number of resources this year.

The city makes about one- million dollars a month in gaming tax from the casino.... but when tropicana closed in march the flow of money to the city was cut off.

Some major points in this proposed budget include eliminating 15 jobs within the city most through attrition... next year city employees on payroll would not see a raise.

Mayor winnecke says he's never had a tougher time to decide where dollars should go.

Winnecke says, "as the 9th budget this has been by far the most difficult.

Usually these presentations by me come in -- they're glowing about all the things we get to do we tried to keep some of that in there but we wanted to make sure you have a realistic view of what they future holds from a revenue standpoint."

Budget hearings are expected to continue through the middle of the week.

Tentatively -- council is scheduled to vote october 12th -- to pass a budget.

Coming up tonight at six.... we'll have more on these talks and how next year's budget will affect area non profits.

Just two non- profits set to receive money from the city.... more on that coming up.
