Redding Electric Utility says power will not be shutoff for customers

Because of the extreme heat: electric companies are asking people to conserve energy and may even turn power off to certain sections.

Ana can people in redding expect blackouts?

Redding electric utility says: customers won't have to worry about having their power shutoff-- at least for now.

That's because r- e-u's grid is connected to the western area power administration and not pg&e's.

The electric company says: the power plant is running at full steam and actually has extra power that reu is sending back to the grid.

And while no blackouts are in sight for now: customers still concerned that it can happen at any time.

Take so* i do think we'll probably experience them, i doubt that they'll be for a very long duration seeing as redding is not a very huge community, but i think we'll do well if we have them here we're fully resourced, not only do we have the power plant but we also have transmission contracts and we can get power from the north.

To help save energy during this extreme heat: r-e-u encourages people to: set your thermostat to 78- degrees... turn off all unnecessary lights in your house... unplug unused electronics... and close your blinds and drapes.

The last time r-e- u had rolling blackouts was 2 years ago... during the carr fire.
