Delta-Beltline interchange overhaul going steady
Construction work opportunities remain plentiful despite the pandemic.

Delta beltline interchange is steady -- and the team behind the major over-haul is "hamilton construction".

In tonight's skilled to work: kezi is partnering with employers in our area... to address the lack of workers for skilled jobs.

"hamilton construction" is a springfield based company responsible for major projects not just in our area but all over the west coast.

And while many industries have slowed or halted during the pandemic -- the need for construction workers is as strong as it's ever been.

Hamilton hosts an apprenticeship program partnered with "north west college of construction" in carpentry and laboring crafts.

And they are always looking for new hires -- so what makes a successful apprentice?

"teamwork... asking questions... being willing to say i don't know that much about this ,but i want to that's huge.... it just open doors for you and you get to learn stuff... it's cool."

The program is 4 years total combining on site training and classwork.

A second year apprentice, says it's now all online due to covid.

He says he started at 23 dollars an hour and after 6 months got a raise and was making 32 dollars an hour -- a wage that will continue to grow over time.

Hamilton construction hires apprentices year- round and said they are always looking for people willing to work as part of our "supporting local businesses campaign", kezi 9 news has started a "we're hiring!"
