District officials spoke about special education, teacher training and scheduling during its last reopening meeting Wednesday night.

Wednesday night.

A wide range of topics were addressed by district officials.

Everything from special education programs, to childcare needs, teacher training, student schedules, boces services, athletics, and access to technology.

Rome superintendent, peter blake, spoke about why the year will start with remote learning.... only for at least the first six weeks.

"bringing kids into a school is number one not safe, the requirements are so rigid that many mistakes will be made because of a shortage of staff to make sure the requirements are implemted proply but also given the significant number of new things we're faced with, the education experience children will have will not be what it is that most people want."

Blake says after the district evaluated the restrictions and requirements that go into hybrid or any form of in- person learning... they felt it was not possible to be successful.

He adds that special education students might return to in- person learning even sooner.

If you still have questions, you can submit them to the district.
