Lafayette Aviators announced as home team for Loeb Stadium

The Lafayette Aviators will continue to call Loeb Stadium home.

And lafayette board of parks & recreation's announcement at a meeting today.

I spoke with city leaders about the decision and i also spoke with the owner of the aviators about this exciting news.

"we are just beyond excited that we got to this point in this day and we have an agreement with the aviators."

Director of operations for lafayette parks jon miner says the decision to select the aviators started with a formal request for proposals back in february.

Lafayette family entertainment was up against main street indiana.

An organization that owns four other minor league baseball teams. "you know it's just a really great day for us.

But in the end the lafayette aviators are officially the home team for the newly renovated loeb stadium.

The aviators will operate a collegiate summer league baseball team.

Chairmen for lafayette family entertainment bill davidson says it's a great opportunity.

"this absolutely awesome.

When we acquired the aviators in april of 2018 we were looking forward to having the opportunity to be in a new stadium and today it's formally announced."

Davidson says the company has quite a bit of experience with minor league baseball teams and summer college baseball.

Having a brand new stadium with all of the bells and whistles they need will take things to a new level.

"it allows us to put on a great show and i think people are really going to enjoy summer at the new loeb stadium."

Lafayette mayor tony roswarski co-signs and says it'll expand possibilities for the community.

"we're gonna have a soccer team, we can play a football game here, concerts, video board, cub scout and girl scouts will be able to camp out on the field and watch a movie at midnight, the opportunities with this facility for this community is just endless."

Jefferson high school will also utilize the space.

All of its home games will take place on the loeb field.

Lafayette family entertainment signed a five year contract with the city.

Construction for loeb stadium is expected to be completed by december of this year.

Part of i-65 in boone county has closed
