We begin this afternoon with continued coverage of the fayette mall shooting.

This afternoon police chief lawrence weathers providing some insight into the response efforts.

That's tonight's top story at six.

L3: top story white chief of police offers insight into response for mall shooting lexington chief weathers says 160 police officers including off-duty officers responded and 200 calls were made to 9-1-1.

Weathers took the time to say he's proud of the response officers made and thanked other agencies that helped in the investigation...sayi ng it truly took a team.

The shooting sunday happening at around four o'clock....and according to police it took nearly five hours to do a complete sweep of the mall.

Xavier hardin...a 19-year-old...faces charges for murder and assault.

Stacy shannon wasn't on duty and happened to be finishing lunch at olive garden at the mall when the shooting happened....so she wasnt in uniform.

A friend of hers steve newell posting on facebook the photo of her helping in flip flops, casual clothes and a ballistics vest on top.

This afternoon at the briefing she was an example of a humble hero...saying it didn't take much consideration to jump in to help l3: top story white sgt.

Shannon: i didn't do anything special, any police officer.

Anybody would have done that.

And there were there were more off duty officers there...you know, you're not thinking of something you do see this.

You know that there is something going on you see people that are wearing the same uniform as you.

And then you see other people in your community.

You know, you see kids and adults, you know all ages, all sizes.

They're running out in chaos and you have to help."

In the facebook post newell goes on to say this is typical of the type of person she is....someone who is lovin and caring but also strong and courageous as she helps protect the city of lexington.
