Giant 17ft crocodile and ten offspring tied up after killing villager in Indonesia

A giant crocodile and ten of its babies were caught and tied up after a killing a man in a river in Indonesia.

The powerful reptile pounced on Arisanto, 25, while he was washing in the stretch of water along the Budong-budong River in West Sulawesi on August 21.

Arisanto's bloodied body was found the next day covered in bite marks, sparking panic among locals who feared they could be next.

Residents began hunting the beasts and by Monday (August 24) they had caught 11 crocodiles, including a five-metre long giant mother croc which is believed suspected of attacking their neighbour.

The 10 smaller baby crocodiles are believed to be the offspring of the giant reptile found on the same river.

Central Mamuju district official Aras Tammauni said: "On my orders, the crocodiles were caught by the residents along with the crocodile handlers.

The crocodiles were tied up by the mouth and legs, before they were taken to the courtyard of the local government office to be paraded in order to reassure locals.

Residents cheered and watched on as the wild beasts lay powerless in front of the building.

District official Aras said he hopes that the residents' will feel better now the killer crocodiles are caught.

He said: "Hopefully.

This event will become a lesson especially for residents around the river.

However, they still have to be careful." The official asked the residents to remain vigilant so that the same deadly incident does not happen again.

After the spectacle, the crocodiles were taken to a wildlife centre where they will be taken care of.
