Temperature Scanner for students

For three months.

It's the third day of school for albert lea high school students.

Some new technology is helping the school determine who is healthy ?

"* ad who needs to stay home from class.

As albert lea high schoolers enter the building each day, a temperature scanner gives them the ok to head to class.

There are three different check points in the school with these temperature scanners... two entrances ?

"* and the office.

As students enter the building for class, an infrared camera detects if they have too high of a temperature.

The scanner doesn't slow anyone down or cause clustering in the hallways.

If a fever is detected ?

"* the scanner alerts the hall monitor.

"if a student set off the scanner, we would have them sit down for 5 minutes, then have them come through again.

If they set it off for a second time, we'd take them to the nurse, have it checked again, then if their temperature was still above 100.4, we'd have them call their parents and have their parents come get them."

As of wednesday ?

"* no students body temperature had set off the scanner.

So far, the only thing known to falsely set off the machine is hot coffee in a styrofoam cup.

This technology is just one of many precautions albert lea high school has to prevent covid?

"* 19 from being transmitted.

Principal grossklaus says students are adjusting well to the new procedures and expectations.

"students have been awesome.

They're excited to be back at school.

I think they missed each other.

We went on spring break and never came back last year in march, so i think it's really exciting for them to be back, see some of their classmates.

To albert lea high school's knowledge, they are the only school in the area using this specific technology to temperature check about a third of albert lea high school students opted to learn fully online this school year.

Another third attend school mondays and wednesdays ?

"* and the rest come on tuesdays and thursdays.

The school is closed fridays for deep cleaning.

When they're not at school ?

"* they learn online.
