Normally on a friday night these sidewalks would be filled with people walking.

Alan, i spoke with local businesses here in chico, and they tell me these first six months were already difficult enough to get through.

Others never expected the virus to have this big of an impact on our everyday lives.

Owner and head chef of aonami, jimmy lee, says he thinks coronavirus will be around for a lot longer than six more months, and hopefully his business is there to see the end.

"i had hoped that it would end sooner, but there was no real promise, i was just preparing for the worst.

I expect it to last for years.

We closed completely for two months and there was no revenue being generated, that was real tough.

And without the sbappp loan, we wouldn't have made it this far."

Businesses have adapted to new guidelines such as dining outside only and enforcing masks.

Other people i spoke with around the city say they thought the virus was only going to be around for a few months, they can't imagine a whole year.

After the march 4th state of emergency declaration... the governor issued the stay at home order march 19th... then loosened those restrictions on may 8th.

On march 4th, california had a total of 36 confirmed coronavirus cases and one confirmed death.

Six months later, tonight there are more than 731-thousand cases and more than 13,600 deaths.
