I's been over a week since hurricane laura slammed into louisiana... but the long road to recovery continues.

Now fema and the us army corps of engineers are working to bring assistance to those in need through operation blue roof.

Tonight, w're diving in to what you need to know to get help.

Operation blue roof is exactly what it sounds like... if hurricane laura gave your home an unexpected skylight... fema wants to make sure your roof is covered with that blue fiber-reinforced sheeting we see all too often after a natural disaster.

I's a temporary fix until you can get the repairs you need.

But i's free if you live in a parish that qualifies."so six parishes are currently eligible for operation blue roof; however, that is subject to change.

We are still very early on in the recovery phase and as local, state and federal authorities continue to access the damage throughout the state, additional parishes could become eligible for the blue roof program."

Those six parishes are allen, beauregard, calcasieu, cameron, jefferson davisand vernon.

The current contract for operation blue roof is for $8,500,000... with two contracting companies doing the work.

But this operation is't the only way fema is helping.

Ther's grant money available for temporary housing, limited home repairs, replacing personal property and for some critical needs.

"so far, fema has registered more than 92-thousand hurricane survivors and have already put more than $22 million in the hands of louisiana residents so they can begin the recovery process."but if yo're wondering how much might be available to you.... the short answer: it depends."every household is evaluated individually on a case-by-case basis.

The average grant provide is generally anywhere between 4 and 5-thousand dollars.

However, that number can be higher or it can be lower depending on each perso's situation."

And to register for assistance through fema, survivo's can call the 1-800 number listed on your
