Right now... tensions are high among different communities in the u-s and those that serve to protect... but here at home... businesses are doing what they can to give back... wtva's daniella oropeza spoke with community members and first responders about what makes our community different... tupelo fire department - fire marshal) owner of horseshoe farms) co-owner of premier fitness) oropeza / tupelo, lee county) kloac / tupelo police department) burress / tupelo police department) "i've been with the tupelo fire department for 26 years."

Jason cross is a fire marshal with t-f-d... and one of the many first responders that enjoyed a free meal by two local businesses... "gah...you know.

It's a crazy time.

You know, everything from the pandemic, all this... politics is at a high right now and tensions are high..."

That's why billy thomas and chris beckish joined forces to give back... "it's a tough, tough job for somebody.

It takes a special person to do it."

Stand up: but through these steaks, the shrimp, the chicken... these first responders and law enforcement officers tell me it means more to them especially with what is happening in america today... "for our brothers in law enforcement, my heart aches for them.

For the ones of them that are doing a good job, and that is the vast majority."

With that support and with efforts like this from the community... officers tell me it's encouragement to do better... "it makes me want to work harder to try to prevent stuff like that from happening here."

"it just shows how close knit we are.

We all have to work off one."

So from police officers and deputies... to firefighters and e-m-t's... first responders were able to indulge in a big meal... "this little random act of kindness...you never know how it could change someone's day.

You never know if one of these guys was having a bad day or a bad night."

"you know, those guys work hard every day and support us, and they're there when we need them."

"whether it's a firefighter or a police officer or an ambulance worker that behind that badge or behind that uniform there's a human being there and they do have the feelings of a human being."
