FNF Scouting Report: Houston Hilltoppers

The Houston Hilltoppers enter the Friday Night Fever Game of the Week after a heartbreaking loss against Shannon.

Game of the week pits two one and one teams against each other: the houston hilltoppers and the pontotoc warriors.

Both teams opened the season with wins and followed them up with a loss.

I went down to houston this afternoon to visit with the hilltoppers who are relying on a new coach and new offensive identity to continue the program's winning tradition.

Anytime you take over a program that's been winning you know that's always the expectation and you gotta find a way to be able to continue that and the kids know that.

(track) baylor dampeer is in his first season with the hilltoppers.

Prior to houston, he was the offensive coordinator for itawamba last year.

He takes over for now tupelo head coach ty hardin who amassed a 38-14 record over four years.

A lot of pressure to begin with and dealing with the coronavirus during his first preseason didn't make things any easier.

(baylor) we're still feeling our way through it, we learn something new every day about a different kid, it's just part of the process and hoping we peak at the right time.

(track) and for the seniors, it's been an adjustment welcoming in a whole new coaching staff.

(shemar) it started off slow we had a new head coach that was coming in pretty late, we missed spring and things like that so we just starting to come along and get used to one another (matt bridge) it's never easy bouncing back from like a heartbreaking loss like the hilltopeers against shannon, losing in overtime on the road, now they have to go on the road again to the pontotoc warriors and the pressure is on to maintain the winning ways of the houston football program.

(jadarius brinker) everybody was down you know, we don't really lose too much around here, it was just really sad after the game we're just going to bounce back.

(track) a positive for coach dampeer was the team fighting through adversity.

They were down late and fought their way back to force ot.

(baylor) they understand what its like to be in a ballgame i don't think they're ever out of a game we got enough talent to hang in there and have a chance every week so we're looking to bounce and hopefully we can do that.
