WAAY 31 is partnering with LifeSouth to collect blood donations at a time where it's more important than ever.

Happening now -- less than 30- minutes left to come to waay-31 to help your neighbors at the blood drive we are hosting with lifesouth.

Waay 31's grace campbell learned why now is such an important time to donate blood.

As of friday, blood supplies at lifesouth were practically empty because they are experiencing a donation shortage.

If you take a look at your screen, these are the shelves at life south on friday.

When blood donations come in, they're in such high demand they get put to use right away.

Life south donor services team leader tyne berry told me hurricane sally caused two life south locations to close.

This makes the need for local blood donations even greater.

"we had to shut down from the hurricane, we had to shut down montgomery and mobiles life south, so now we're collecting for them also.

So, it's like we have to work twice as hard to make sure that everybody, the hospitals have enough blood."

Life south is encouraging everyone who can donate blood to do so.

If you would like to help save a life, you have until 630 to come to 1000 monte sano boulevard to donate blood.

Live in huntsville, grace campbell waay 31 news.

If you can't make it to the blood drive tonight -- don't worry -- you can still donate!

You can go to the life-south community blood center in huntsville hospital.
