Newswatch 12's cameron derby caught up with one happy camp man that did exactly that.

This particular view was what vicki mcinnis was looking at.

After being evacuated from her own home, vicki went with her son and her son's dad which would eventually be evacuated.

So they held up over night at a river bank as the flames go within a football field.

Enter dan effman.

çáávicki lineááñ "so he put out on facebook that anyone that was hungry could come down and get a meal from him because money was no good in happy camp.

There were no stores that were open."

Dan own partners deli and arcade in the heart of happy camp.

Dan decided to stay in happy camp, take a thousand dollars out of his own pocket, and feed those who were stranded.

çáádan lineááñ "well i knew people had to eat, and i knew there were people that wouldnt leave.

I mean it is just so hard to leave your things behind and worry about them."

But as people coming back to happy camp became impossible, another nearly impossible decision.

In the midst of the fire that destroyed homes, dan decided to deliver the meals to them.

And the kindess only followed.

çáádan lineááñ "then a really good thing happened as i was running out of funds.

Somes bar/orleans slater fire support and several others started donating items. marble mountain, they grow organic vegetables, they started bringing things to me."

In total, 47 free meals a day for 5 days.

And he is still feeding people impacted by the fire.

He still debates his staus as hero with the people of happy camp.

He came with that smile on his face and that care in his heart."
