C1 3 school students could be back in class for in-person instruction...but the school board is considering a new plan announced at its meeting tonight.

The plan is from superintendent manny caulk and it would have some elementary students back in the classroom for a limited time in less than a month.

It's a plan the board wants to hear more about in the coming weeks.

Abc 36's monica harkins explains.

"to supplement the teir one core instruction these targeted services could include..."

Targeted services...it's fayette county's new plan to get students the help they need with online learning.

The term, 'targeted services' is new...to the public and the board.

"people on the ground who are going to respondsible.

A for implementing this an dmaking sure its succeful and serves the need of every child in our comunity and b who are going to be in a large extent risking their lives and their families lives.

It's alarming that they don't know the details.."

The plan calls for teachers to pin- point which students are struggling and then provide them with face-to-face help in school.

Bus transportation would be offered.

"8 pm on thursday on 8 pm on thursday we were in the red."

Superintendent manny caulk recommended the plan since the district can't have in-person classes right now under state guidelines because of the number of coronavirus cases in the county.

"i want every board member to feel comfortable with everything that we're doing."

The tentative plan would begin october 19th...and would be phased-in..beginning with elementary students...but only if the board has the information it needs the week before...such as how many students have needed help....which means the board will have to have another special meeting.

"as a dirstcit fcps will implemnt targeted services on october 19 if a plan has been presented to the board and accepted by the board by oct 12 by or on oct 12."

The board hasn't written off hybrid learning...an option that would allow in-person instruction on some days...online the others.

"alot of the other things that we're talking about we're just not going to know."

As for sports and other extracurriculars they're allowed to continue as is.
