Hope Academy student taken into custody after Gulfport police find knife and gun in backpack

A fifth grade student at Hope Academy was taken into custody Monday after a gun and knife was discovered in the student’s backpack.

- in a statement sent to parent's- by the head of hope academy,- heather blenden.- it states, "we believe that thi was an isolated case and that n- individual student or staff - member was in immediate - danger."

The head of the school says tha- the offending student will not- return to hope academy's campus- at any point in the far - future.
