Evansville Man Arrested for the Murder of Megan Nichols

An arrest was made on Wednesday morning in connection to the 2014 disappearance/murder of a Wayne County, Illinois teen.

Deal... good afternoon---- thanks for joining us at noon--- i'm -- megan diventi -- developing this afternoon--- developing at this hour - an evansville man is arrested in connection to the death and disappearance of an illinois teen who went missing in 2014.

44news reporter tyler druin has been following the story all morning.

He is live right now in wayne county with the developments--- tyler what have you learned?

Investigators have been working megan nichols case for six long years.

The 15 year old went missing from her home in fairfield in 20-14.

There have been several developments in her case over the years but no arrests until today.

This afternoon we know 24 year old brodey murbarger is the man authorities say is responsible.

Nichols was last seen july third -- 2014.

She was considered a missing person for years.... in december 20-17 human remains were found on a farm in rural wayne county and were later identified as belonging to megan.

Since then investigators have been working to figure out what exactly happened to the young woman- in late september a grand jury indicted murbarger for megan's death and disappearance.

I am about four houses away from the family they are really good people who are as you can expect totally devastated, by the disappearance, after a time they found the body it a horrible story, and we are all proud of them, i am so happy this has happened because it will help them continue the process of healing from the loss of their beloved daughte?

Murbarger was arrested outside of his workplace in evansville.

Right now it is unclear as to what evidence led police and special agents to the 24 year old.

We're also working to learn more about the connection between nichols and murbarger.

Authorities executed a search warrant at the suspect's apartment earlier today.

At this hour murbarger is being held without bond in the vanderburgh county jail waiting extradition back to wayne county.
