Local salon celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Tribe Salon and Spa in Macon is doing something special for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"i just wanted to make sure that we could give back to them for everything that they've done for me and my family."

Lena thompson, is a sylist at tribe salon and spa in macon -- and a breast cancer survivor.

"i was diagnosed on october 28, 2019 that it was for sure breast cancer."

Lena was diagnosed with invasive triple negative breast cancer.

She underwent several surgeries and chemotherapy treatments.

Lena's friend and the salon's social media manager, kaitlyn cowart, says watching her friend battle cancer was hard.

But cowart says she is inspired by her positivity.

"she is one of the strongest people that i know.

She is bubbly, she is happy, and she did not let this cancer bring her down one bit."

Thompson says although her journey has been difficult so far, she's thankful for the support from family, friends, and organizations like united in pink.

"united in pink helped me emotionally, physically, financially, they helped with counciling for the kids they have kids camp for the kids in the summer time, they're amazing."

As a way to show her appreciation, tribe salon is doing something special for breast cancer awareness month.

"100 percent of the proceeds for the pink feathers, pink extensions, pink anything goes right back into united in pink."

The salon hopes by giving people a little pink to wear in their every day life, it will help raise awareness.

"it's so fun too so not only are you supporting something so great, you also get to look super cute with a little pop of pink in your hair."

Tribe salon says their pink pride will not stop, and they will continue to show support c1 3 b13 beyond this month.
