Dan Camp, a developer and former Starkville mayor, died from the coronavirus Sunday.

Starkville mayor lynn spruill confirmed that dan camp died after battling the coronavirus in the hospital.

Many business owners that i spoke with today said they will always label him as a visionary.

A favorite person to many in the city of starkville..

Mayor lynn spruill was a long time friend and a former colleague to dan camp she worked as his chief administrative officer during his term as mayor.

((sot)) "we will always see things that remind us of dan.

Driving by a building that's painted blue or seeing the pianos make me think of dan because that was one of the things that he and i talked about as mayor."

Lynn spruill-mayor of starkville dan camp was a developer..he bought and built properties for over 50 years.

After growing up in tupelo, camp moved down to starkville to transform this neighborhood into the cotton district.

((sot)) "things that i had seen, i plugged and said i don't know why we can't do that in starkville mississippi."

Dan camp-developer, former mayor of starkville this area now serves as a popular hangout spot between mississippi state university and downtownit has restaurants, coffee shops and salons.

"resident visionary.

Visionary, that's the word i'm looking for.

He could see the potential."

One business owner in the cotton district said dan camp was the reason that her book shop blossomed.

((sot)) "dan was pivotal in sage being here in starkville.

It was, he banked on me and gave me an opportunity and i will always be grateful.

I'm really sad to hear about his passing."

Lara hammond-owner, sage coffee books last year i interviewed dan camp about two projects he was working on.

Camp brought to life a restaurant called two brothers and an ice cream shop.

"i got a 14 ounce hammer and never looked back."

Dan camp told me last year that he began building and designing things since he was six years old.

He planned to continue this for another 20 years, but although hes not physically here many say his legacy lives on forever.
