Year.

With every election year - comes the inevitable slew of campaign yard signs.... but as we gear up for life - after the election - the question is - how long will they be able to stay up.... and how long are they allowed to linger in your neighborhood.... 44 news reporter valerie lyons reports on evansville's political sign policy.... its been a long and heated election season -- everywhere you look -- front yards -- filled with signs and slogans -- backing voters' political picks.

While evansville resident hannah williams couldn't have a sign in the community she lives in -- she says she would if she could.

"i'm very confident in my beliefs and in my morals so i would definitely show my support for my candidate on this sign in my window or in my yard."

But with election day in the books -- those campaign signs -- won't stay up forever.

And different cities have different policies when it comes to taking them down.

In evansville -- the city code says -- political signs are exempt from any restrictions -- homeowners do not need a permit -- and can have as many as they wish -- without any limit to how long they stay up.

And though some may grow tired of seeing them -- williams says she doesn't mind if they stay up well past election day.

"i usually don't mind if people have signs up eve n if it's year round and it's not even an election year i don't really mind."

But she says sometimes -- if those signs stay up too long -- they go beyond simply supporting a candidate.

"sometimes it's disheartening to see when people use their political signs to kind of discredit and intimidate people for their beliefs."
