Dozens of former Remington employees held a protest on Monday after the former company laid off 586 workers without severance pay and cut off their benefits.

Money the union said is contractually owed to its workers.

Marching from francos pizza to the plant, in ilion.

They say the old remington outdoor company has a contractual obligation to fulfill.

The ilion plant was purchased by the roundhill group during a bankrupcy auction.

The local union representative says they're hoping talks between the union and the new company will continue.

""firearms are a way of life here and we hope to continue that process with the round hill group.

And get everybody back to work here as soon as possible."

"what were out here doing is fighting for what is owed to us by the company that failed us."

Today some of the employees received a letter in the mail from bankrupcy court in alabama asking how much remington owes them.

--these workers also got gift cards from the union today.

News channel 2's brent kearney reports on how these unemployed workers are coping and their hopes for the future.

Its been a long few weeks for these remington employees after the company laid off 586 workers.

Today union members picking up 100 dollar gift cards to try and keep food on the table.

None jeffrey says: "they definitely need it, everybody needs it."

Union president jeffrey madison says the gift cards were purchased by the union.

Dan drennen: "564 peopl times 100 its alot of money but we can use it."

A few of the workers including gerald strong received this letter in the mail from the bankrupcy court in alabama.

In short the letter acknowledges that remington owes these employees money.

Members need to fill out how much is owed to him and send it in the mail by tomorrow.

Strong who just returned from active duty says remington owes him around 10 thousand dollars.

Gerald says: "i was better off in a warzone i had a job.

You come back to upsate new york and they jutrans estimated the total amount thecn the millions of dollars.

Money workers are certain they will get.

"i don't know the final outcome.

We've just been fighting for it, that's what we've been picketing for that's what we've been talking to politicians for."

"the union plans on continuing to give out these 100 dollar gift cards tomorrow here at the union offices between the hours of 9am and 3pm.
