Thanksgiving is just two weeks from today - and there are concerns the holiday could fuel the most dangerous covid-19 spike yet.

Alabama added close to 17- hundred coronavirus cases since yesterday!

There are now more than 178- thousand confirmed cases since march.

And another close to 33- thousand probable casses.

Close to 22-thousand of those cases were reported in the last 2 weeks.

There are also 2,970 confirmed deaths.

Thanksgiving normally marks the start of the busy holiday travel season.

More than half of americans say- they'll travel for the holiday.

Waay 31's grace campbell spoke with huntsville international airport officials today..

She found out how they plan to keep you safe if you fly.

A spokesperson for huntsville international airport says they're following all cdc guidelines so you can stay safe while traveling to see your loved ones for the holidays.

Pkg jana kuner, pr manager: "when you're here, you can feel safe."

Since the pandemic began 8 months ago, the amount of people flying has gone down significantly but huntsville international airport's public relations manager, jana kuner, says it's picked up since labor day and they believe the trend will continue for the next few months.

"i would say we could see more people traveling this holiday season.

Not anywhere near the past but potentially some more travelers this holiday season than you would see right now."

With the anticipated increase, the airport's main priority still remains the same: to keep everyone as safe as possible.

To do this, they've enhanced their safety measures by cleaning more, adding additional contactless flight check ins and social distancing markers throughout the airport.

One traveler says her family is confident with what the airport has in place.

Lauren mielke: "we felt safe the whole time.

I mean it was pretty normal.

They took all the proper precautions and my family's been healthy and well, we felt safe to travel."
