Nursing Home Hellos from the Heart

Five locals created a group called "Nursing Home Hellos from the Heart" to send cards to isolated nursing home residents during the holiday season.

Is doing just that.

They've arrived with a surprise for local nursing home residents.

And today, they made their final stop in clinton.

None "the lutherancare home here in clinton is the last stop for a local group, who's collected cards from all over the country to give to local nursing home residents."

Vo: nursing home hellos from the heart is a local organization that began this year to bring smiles to seniors.

Sot: "when covid came around, my father used to be in a nursing home.

I also do guardianship work so i know a lot of elderly people in the homes.

And my heart broke.

I reached out, i just asked people basically on facebook and four of my friends came forward and we started this little project."

Vo: the program began in june on facebook and has been a huge success.

Sot: "we had community dropoffs set up and we were stopping in july to accept the cards and then we would organize them.

And we started delivering them in july; 21 nursing homes, 2,800 residents.

Today's our last one at lutheran home and we have 250 cards."

Vo: and these cards and drawings have made a big difference to the nursing home residents and staff in oneida and herkimer counties.

Sot: "we're very very greatful to people like theresa who've thought of our facility and who help bring some sunshine to our residents during this really difficult time."

Vo: this is especially heartwarming since these residents won't be able to see their families for thanksgiving due to the rise in coronavirus cases.

Standup: "hopefully the cards that were brought here today brought some smiles to the residents of this nursing home and all of the others in the area.
