Some residents were shocked but not surprised when a shooting Friday night led to a man’s death at The Muse on Main.

Friday night turned fatal at a local music venue near downtown fort wayne.

Fox 55's mallory beard tells us how neighbors hope for more security in the area since the incident.

Hairspray salon owner lori bannister says as far as music venues go, the muse on main is relatively peaceful.

It's just when they leave the property is when we have the problems."

Bannister and other neighbors say chaos has been brewing in the area after the local clubs close.

I almost moved over it, because i have teenagers.

You know i have kids over here.

So they were shocked but not surprised when a shooting friday night led to a man's death.

Fort wayne police officer mark beiker says there was a large gathering inside muse on main when a shot was fired.

Mark bieker//fort wayne police department "they did find one victim down on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

At that time he was initially listed with life threatening injuries, by paramedics...a short time later the victim was pronounced deceased on scene."

He says people were still flooding out of the venue when officers arrived within a minute of the call.

But bannister says the area needs more police presence wednesdays through sundays when more events are happening.

But when we call, it takes anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes to get down here."

This main street resident says she's called police about violenece and disruption near her home before... voice of main street resident "they just refuse to do anything."

She says trash on her lawn from nearby afterparties has accumulated since the summer.

There were full patron bottles one night...when we woke up the next day.

It's never ending."

She looks forward to a day when main street residents won't have to tell their kids to hit the floor because of nearby gunshots.

Voice of main street resident "and it's sad someone had to lose their life for people to pay attention when we've been reporting this all summer."
