Iranians celebrate 44th anniversary of Islamic revolution

Hundreds of Iranians take to the streets in Tehran to mark the 44th anniversary of the Islamic revolution, after months of anti-government protests.

The 1979 overthrow of the Western-backed shah was commemorated by many flag-waving people travelled on foot to converge on the capital's iconic Azadi (Freedom) Square, despite chilly temperatures.

"Given the recent turmoil, the march is like a referendum to show that we support the system, our leader and our country" says one attendee.
